Brandi Parker (she/they) (b. 1978) is currently based in South Arkansas after many years in New York City. This return to her hometown marked a rebirth of her previously dormant art practice as much as a cure for homesickness.
Parker graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2000, with a BA in Fine Arts, in Drawing and Printmaking. Drawing is an obsession, and as a result, is a foundation for every piece of work she creates. She believes that lines are the purest form of connection— a central idea. She explores themes of spirituality, life, pain, nature, abstraction and surrealist juxtaposition.
By continuously challenging herself with mediums beyond drawing tools, pushing back on what constitutes drawing in the first place, and exploring how medium and substrate force different flavors of relationship— from artist to work to observer— her style is quickly evolving, but what remains constant are organic forms that convey a range of expression from curiosity to sinister.
